Should illegal immigrants be offered a path to legalization?
|
We have managed to construct an economy in which undocumented immigrants play an essential role. We can debate endlessly how this happened, and who if anyone is at fault, but the fact is undeniable. To attempt to deport them would be futile, and quite harmful to American business, including especially agribusiness. To leave them in the current state is cruel and invites exploitation. The only alternative is some path to legalization.
In addition, there are many children of undocumented immigrants who are American citizens. Penalizing these children by deporting their parents is cruel.

Illegal immigrants already have a clear path to legal immigration. Why do we need more laws to offer a 'carrot' to immigration when the laws we already have could be use and should be used. After all this is a Nation of immigrants.
Posted by starcad on 2/20/2008 Kudos: 28 Censures: 25 The path to citizenship for people who entered illegally is overly long because they are penalized for entering illegally. There are people who came here as minors who are also penalized. For them its not just about going to the back of the line, but also not being able to get in line for the next X years. That creates a big incentive to just remain here illegally.

We provide health care when legal citezens are struggling for health care. We offer illegals welfare when we can hardly help legal citezens break out of the cycle of poverty. When people want to be citezens of this country, they should start legally from the beginning and I will welcome them with open arms.

They are not honoring our laws and you think that will change with citizenship? No! Deport them all and let them petition citizenship through proper chanels. We are required passports to go overseas. They need passports otherwise it is discrimination on us. We as a nation could do a lot with $338 Billion dollars. No wonder our country is ecomically broke.
Posted by jewel on 3/2/2008 Kudos: 22 Censures: 20 I don't feel they should, because I don't believe they'll fight for our country, when I turn my tv on all I see are our American Soldiers fighting & dying for what they belive in, all immigrants want are American Benefits!!
Posted by Trice on 3/8/2008 Kudos: 20 Censures: 23 There are currently about 37,500 foreign nationals from over 200 countries serving in the active duty forces and reserves . Seventy-one have died in Iraq and three in Afghanistan. There are people who would fight even if illegally, for this country for a chance to become citizens.

I think we should treat immigrants the same way we are treated if we go to another country. If you really want to live in america then do what is ask of you. Why should someone who is an immigrant have the same rights if not more than I do. I live in a state that has changed its laws regarding immigrants and many have moved how dare we make then abide by the law.
Posted by okilady on 3/8/2008 Kudos: 21 Censures: 19 I feel they should do what my husband had to do, first he had a TN visa and waitted his turn for his perm stay and got visa. Today he is a citizen. After 4years.
Posted by DIaneT on 3/18/2008 Kudos: 18 Censures: 19 Well DIaneT if they were able to do what your husband did that would essentially be a path to citizenship. However the way the laws are now many illegal immigrants are unable to do what your husband did.

Americans and non-Americans with low research and investigation mind would answer "no" to this question. You would get more "nos" from the Whites than Non-whites.
Under the hidden and overt policies and practices of visa and other forms of entries Exemptions into US, majority of the white enjoyed entries by Exemptions and other alliance. Qualitatively entries by Exemptions and other alliance are 100% equal to illegal immigrants across America.
